Kzn Flood Relief Campaign
On 3 January 2009, 602 houses were completely destroyed and a further 3000 houses were damaged due to the raging storms that hit KwaZulu Natal. The KZN Provincial Government initiated a project to bring government and the private sector together using television stars, in partnership with the SABC, uKhozi FM and SAFM to give an opportunity for ordinary people and companies to help those affected by the flooding. Vela VKE was proud to be a part of this worthy initiative and purchased all the construction materials required to rebuild one of the Eston area houses.
A gala dinner was held by the office of the Premier at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall, where Vela VKE received a certificate of appreciation from the Honourable Sbusiso Ndebele, Premier of KwaZulu Natal and Dr Kwazi Mbanjwa, Director General of the Province, for their time and contribution provided towards this initiative. Kresen Manicum from the Durban office and his wife Revani, received the award on behalf of Vela VKE. Other guests at the dinner included the Mayor of Pietermaritzburg, the president of the Business Chamber and local soap stars from Isidingo and Generations.
