Our office block is situated in Ferndale, in the Northern suburbs of Johannesburg with easy access to Sandton, Randburg and the Johannesburg CBD’s.  The office is close to Brightwater commons shopping centre and has access to all major routes. We have a staff complement of 55 and our main focus areas are building structures, major water projects, rail projects, procurement advice, townships, road upgrading, pipe condition assessment, pipe rehabilitation  and renovation, pipe upgrading, capital expenditure and programme management, commercial and industrial developments, Public Private Partnerships  and resource planning.

The office has been and is the base of the Vela VKE personnel who won the most outstanding achievement in civil engineering in the 20th century for water i.e. Lesotho Highlands. The office won the Steel Institute  2009 award for Technical Excellence for the Rustenburg Stadium design. The office has the highest percentage of women in senior positions in Vela VKE and has been developing alternative methodologies for married women to continue their careers whilst having children.

Office Head - David Gertzen

The office is headed by David Gertzen (Pr Eng, MSc Eng) who has more than 21 years of engineering and institutional advisor experience in a variety of projects, particularly Public Private Partnerships, and currently heads up the Management Services Section in the Development Division.  Dave is a member of the Vela VKE Exco and Board as the representative for the minority beneficiaries.  He is married to Margie and they have three children who keep life busy.  He walks, mountain bike’s and plays the occasional round of golf.  He is also involved in the leadership of a local Christian church.
